The CNIB Library is available to any North Kawartha Public Library member (including children and teens) with a perceptual disability.

Access to the CNIB Library collection is restricted to people with perceptual disabilities. Under the provisions of the Canadian Copyright Act, a perceptual disability is one that prevents or inhibits a person from reading conventional print. This includes the following:

  1. Visual Disability: Severe or total impairment of sight or the inability to focus or move one's eyes
  2. Physical Disability: The inability to hold or manipulate a book
  3. Learning Disability: An impairment relating to comprehension

Daisy Reader

The term "DAISY" stands for "Digital Accessible Information System," and it is a standard for digital talking books.  The DAISY format allows users to hear and navigate written material presented in an audible format.

Our DAISY Reader may be borrowed by patrons who wish to try one out before investing in one of their own.  We have one Victor Reader Classic X digital talking book player. We do not have DAISY CDs in our collection; you will have to borrow them through CNIB or another source.
