North Kawartha Library Service Expansion
At the April 20, 2009 meeting of the North Kawartha Library Board the decision was made to build an addition onto the Wilson Park Community Centre to replace the current Woodview library facility. Due to the deterioration of the current building (the former S.S. #1 Burleigh School built in 1894), public library service could not continue to be offered there. After receiving public input at the April 20th meeting it was unanimously decided to proceed with building a new library facility addition on the current community centre location on Northey’s Bay Rd. The Library Board also recognized the historical significance and value of the former school house and will investigate options and costs to preserve it. Until the new library facility is constructed the Woodview library service will be temporarily suspended for the 2009 summer season. Library service will still be available at the main branch in Apsley. The Board will be proceeding with the design and tendering process and intends to have the new library completed for the end of the year. For more information please contact either the Board Chair Carolyn Amyotte at 656-1103 (Carolyn@eelslake.com) or the CEO Shannon Hunter 656-4445 ext. 236 (s.hunter@northkawartha.on.ca). |
